POSITION DESCRIPTION
 
Member Responsible for Early Childhood Ministry
 
 
ORGANIZATIONAL FRAMEWORK OF THE POSITION
 
 
1)      Shall be responsible to the North Atlantic District Youth Discipleship Committee and the WELS Commission on Youth Discipleship through the District Coordinator.
 
2)      Shall work in close conjunction with the District Coordinator and the other members of the District Youth Discipleship Committee.
 
3)      Shall be under the spiritual care and supervision of the District Coordinator.
 
 
 
GENERAL NATURE OF THE POSITION
 
1)      The member responsible for Early Childhood Ministry is a volunteer position to be filled by a male or female who is found to be “full of faith and the Holy Spirit” (Acts 6:5, 11:24, etc.)
 
2)      The member responsible for Early Childhood Ministry must be a member of a Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod congregation within the District, in good standing, faithful in his/her church and Lord’s Supper attendance, and approved by the District President and/or District Coordinator.
 
3)      The member responsible for Early Childhood Ministry must also have the following:
 
a)      A proper understanding of Law and Gospel.
b)      A desire to grow in faith through personal use of the Means of Grace.
c)      A desire to spread God’s Word to children and their families within the District.
d)      A Christ-like servant/leader mindset.
e)      A positive spirit relative to ministry in general and his/her District duties in particular.
f)       A willingness to submit in a spirit of love and cooperation to the District President, the WELS Commission on Youth Discipleship, the District Youth Discipleship Committee, and District Coordinator.
g)      A reputation within the District that engenders the respect and cooperation of others.
h)      A general understanding of WELS and District ministry activity.
i)        An understanding of the nurture and outreach dimensions of ministry.
 
 
 
j)        An appreciation for the positive and proactive role youth ministry can play in ministering to the family.
k)      A desire to work together with others as a team player.
l)        A high degree of organizational skills.
m)    An ability to clearly communicate both orally and in writing.
n)      An ability to complete tasks in a timely, orderly, and professional manner.
o)      A high degree of interpersonal (people) skills.
 
 
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
 
The member responsible for Early Childhood Ministry will do the following:
 
1)      Attend all face-to-face and/or teleconference meetings scheduled by the District Youth Discipleship Committee and/or District Coordinator.
 
2)      Report activities on a regular basis and according to the approved schedule to the District Coordinator and/or the District Youth Discipleship Committee.
 
3)      Keep records of all expenses incurred in carrying out these responsibilities and submit the appropriate requisitions for reimbursement.
 
4)      Obtain approval for any and all expenses and activities not previously approved.
 
5)      Promote and advocate for the CYD vision and objectives relative to Early Childhood and similar ministries.
 
6)      Be a district resource person on Early Childhood ministry.
 
7)      Promote WELS curriculum and self-study resources for Early Childhood ministries.
 
8)      Be familiar with district Early Childhood ministry models and help CYD to maintain a descriptive database on such models.
 
9)      Assist with the development and supervision of district-wide workshops on Early Childhood ministry.
 
10) Network with any and all other WELS national and district entities that concern themselves with the Christian education of children.
 
11) Be familiar with non-WELS resources in the district that may provide additional insights, assistance, and networking possibilities relative to Early Childhood ministry.
 
12) With the approval of the DC, involve additional helpers to better develop and administer this area of district CYD ministry.
